UrbanTrapeze Products

Hanging signs with steel cable the traditional way requires the use of crimps, ferrules and a box full of tools.

Introducing the UrbanTrapeze™, a versatile and practical cable adjuster that provides fast, simple, safe and cost-effective installations for ceiling displays.

UrbanTrapeze revolutionizes hanging signs or other articles with its built-in locking mechanism which automatically grips steel cable. Once attached to the cable, installers can create a connecting loop and incrementally adjust the hanging height or level a sign. Pressing either clutch button allows the cable to freely move back and forth.

UrbanTrapeze is the perfect hardware for installing items with a static load including aisle markers, navigational signs, heavier décor items, lighting systems, and ductwork. An ideal solution for ceiling signs in retail, manufacturing, conference and event environments as well.

The UrbanTrapeze is compact, reusable and aesthetically pleasing. Our two models are made from anodized aluminum which protects against corrosion.

UT 1.5 is compatible with 1/16” (1.5mm) steel cable. For use with a static load that has a relatively constant position and magnitude over time, the safe working load is 70 pounds (31.8kg). For use with a dynamic load where the force may change over time – think of wind gusts – the safe working load is 48 pounds (21.7kg).

UT 3.0 is compatible with 1/8” (3mm) steel cable. For use with a static load, the safe working load is 250 pounds (113.4kg). For use with a dynamic load the safe working load is 170 pounds (77.1kg).

The recommended cable configuration for use with the UrbanTrapeze is 7×7 galvanized, uncoated steel cable. The use of powder or vinyl coated cable are not advised as the safe working load will be reduced.

A WORD ABOUT STEEL CABLE SAFE WORKING LOADS

As you determine the safe working load of steel cable for your project, consider factors including end-use of the product, environment, type of load being applied to the cable and the wire cable minimum break strength.

Wire rope should never be used at its rated Minimum Breaking Strength. A safety factor must be applied before installation, based on several factors including whether the installed product has a static or a dynamic load. The safety factor for either model of the UrbanTrapeze is 7:1 for a static load and 10:1 for a dynamic load.

Steel cable is available in 1/16 inch (1.5mm) or 1/8 inch (3mm) diameters in 100, 250 and 500 ft. spools.

*Never use steel cable for overhead lifting without consulting a wire rope rigging professional.
